Someone might ask why I seemingly only draw females, portraits and poses. The reason is simple: I am only trying to develop my drawing skills.
I am still learning about face and body proportions, and am slowly trying to venture into posing and gesture. My way of thinking is; you can't start drawing interesting poses or characters with cool gesture before you can nail the proportions blindfolded.
And so this thinking applies to the type of characters I draw. I would like to draw men and animals and all kinds of characters, but I started with women. As I find women more visually appealing, that's what I started with when I began drawing.
I my head I have constructed the following path for development:
Learn to draw: 1. Female face proportions -> 2. Female body proportions -> 3. Female poses and gesture -> 4. Shading -> 5. Color and Light
At stage 3 I might start to dabble more with male faces and bodies, in parallel. Later on, animals and creatures.
In the end my goal is to create character concept art, with the focus of have female characters depicted in some sort of situation and with a background story to them. I like strong female characters who can take care of themselves even if they sometimes get themselves into a vulnerable situations.
Some of the best character art I've seen have many kinds of characters in them and a girl can be even sexier or more beautiful if she's in a context where other characters are present.
With all this said, I do have a feeling that this focus on drawing girls will fade when I improve. Because then I will be more comfortable with drawing characters in general which will make drawing men, animals and creatures more appealing. And that will be fun, I'm sure! But I don't suspect I will ever grow tired of drawing those girls
Peace
